  Die Kernarbeit der Ausstellung „Landschaften“ ist die Aneignung des Galerieraums als Produktionsstätte und die Offenlegung des gegenwartsfokussierten Entstehungsprozesses der Arbeiten Linea I bis III, deren Entstehungsjahr sinngemäß der 16.Juni. 2017 sein wird. Ausgangspunkt war die Arbeit „die andere Aktualität“ von 2015 und die Oberflächenstruktur des Jupitermondes Europa.

  Matthias Glas künstlerische Praxis basiert auf einer künstlerischen Neugier an dem, was scheinbar alltäglich, aber dennoch kurios ist. Seine Arbeiten entstehen aus inhaltlichen oder visuellen Assoziationsketten und einem kontinuierlichen Rechercheprozess, in den immer wieder neue Materialien und Ableitungen eingespeist und verarbeitet werden. Es ist ein humorvolles Spiel mit Erwartungshaltungen, das für die BesucherInnen Momente der Irritation schafft. Ein Wiedererkennen von Objekten, Strukturen oder Funktionen, das sich doch nie ganz einlöst und stattdessen visuell andere Verbindungen triggert. Es geht Matthias Glas auch nicht um eine theoretische Aufarbeitung oder Analyse, sondern um genau diese optischen Verbindungslinien und Assoziationsketten, die eine neue Sichtweise, ein Stutzig-Werden erlauben.

  Oftmals überträgt er die Produktionssituation seines Ateliers in den Ausstellungsraum oder versucht mit einfachen Lösungsstrategien auf die Merkwürdigkeiten in der Welt zu reagieren und diese als Ausgangspunkt seines künstlerischen Forschungsinteresses zu setzen.

  The core principle behind the exhibition „Landschaften“ (landscapes) is the occupation of the gallery as a location of production as well as the disclosure of the manufacturing process of the works “Linea I to III”, whose year of making will therefore be the 16th of June 2017.

  Points of origin were the work “die andere Aktualität” (the other timeliness) from 2015 and the surface structure of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons.

  Matthias Glas’ artistic code of practice stems from an artistic curiosity about things that might seem commonplace but are nonetheless inherently strange. His works are created from content related and visual associative chains and a continuous research process, in which new materials and deflections are constantly being fed and processed. This becomes a humorous game, playing with the visitor’s expectations, creating moments of irritation. A recognition of objects, structures or functions, which, however, never quite adheres but instead visually triggers other connections. Matthias Glas’ aim is not to theoretically rehabilitate or analyse, but to create these visual connecting lines and associative chains which allow for a new perception and for the visitor to be taken aback. Oftentimes Matthias Glas transfers his studio’s productive situation into the show room or tries to respond to the world’s oddities with simple solution approaches and to use these approaches as a starting point for his artistic curiosity.
