lives and works in CologneJohannes Tassilo Walter explores visual reproduction processes within fragmentary pictorial arrangements using a wide variety of techniques and materials. Walter's paintings are created by combining various printing techniques and classical painting processes. Errors and irregularities such as blurring, overlapping and streaks that arise in these repetitive processes are emphasized. These imperfections make each work unique. Walter interweaves images of old masters, interiors or photographs of his own studio with spontaneous elements of abstraction or with deliberately shifted layers of silkscreen and plaster. His work questions hierarchies within his own oeuvre and aims for a collision of different painterly influences and materials.
