Roy Mordechay has developed an enigmatic imagery. His multi-layered paintings are composed of various recurring abstract and figurative elements. Schematic surfaces, anthropomorphic forms and fragments of landscape are combined to balanced compositions in front of pastel-coloured and gradient backgrounds. The seemingly playful and surrealistic sceneries illustrate a complex picture cosmos. The stylistically "naive" language of form opens up varied connotations to culturally anchored symbolics as well as to aspects of digital image aesthetics. The individually rounded picture frames give the canvases a sculptural level.
